		09-Jun-04   Steve Kurtz On May 11, 2004, Buffalo artist and University of Buffalo teacher Steve Kurtz lost his wife of over 20 years to a heart attack. Hours later, he was accused by the Joint Terrorism Task Force, FBI, and Buffalo Police of bio-terrorism. Steve belongs to an internationally known group of artists called the Critical Art Ensemble. Their work moves between the boundaries of art and science, claiming space and using tools that some would consider exclusively meant for scientists. It was this mentality, coupled with the mass hysteria created by our current administration that stole Steve's grief, art supplies, and even thousands of dollars in legal bills. The evolutionary girls club (of which i am a member) put on a benefit show for his defense fund. One of the pieces I read was written specifically for Steve entitled, "Tools." Check it out.
